Footloose Revere Tricycle Wheelchair

A reverse tricycle wheelchair is stable to the rear and unstable forward. It cannot be wheelied due to the rear wheel. When too much weight is transfered forward, the seat will tip forward. Therefore, this type of wheelchair is best used by people with trunk and leg control.

Since the Footrest Swing can be easily removed, this design works well for foot propulsion. The rear caster prevents the wheelchair from tipping over backwards. Therefore, people with minimal weight in the front (such as double amputees) are able to use this wheelchair with the drive wheels positioned forward.

Since it cannot be put in the wheelie position, going down inclines is problematic for people who need to wheelie down declines in maintain their trunk balance. The forward position of the drive wheels makes braking difficult for people without trunk control. When the drive wheels strike an obstacle, there is a chance of jolting and tipping forward. For all these reasons, this style of wheelchair is best used by people with significant trunk control on level surfaces.
